Reference Groups

An essential element of the project involved liaison and consultation with industry and community representatives. Two reference groups were formed: the Community Reference Group (CRG) and the Media Reference Group (MRG). In identifying members for the Reference Groups, care was taken to ensure that there was an appropriate range of representative stakeholders in each group.
The role of the Community and Media Reference Groups included:

• representing stakeholders from ethnic communities and the media industry within Australia;
• reviewing and commenting on the various elements of the project, including the development of the curriculum resources and the final form of the resources; and
• commenting on specific aspects of the project, including:
• identifying and contributing relevant articles and other material to the Environmental Scan;
• commenting and suggesting content for the six case studies and curriculum modules; and
• highlighting issues for consideration in the Media Analysis.

The Reference groups were convened when there were specific issues to be addressed. Between meetings the project group were in regular contact via email and they were also provided with project updates.
